....was worth the wait. My reason for the four stars is this--like but did not love the main characters as much as I did in the first novel. The initial encounter between the to hero and heroine was a nice setup but just didn't feel like their chemistry was as hot as the two in the first book.Product details

Devil of a Duke The Wickeds Book 2 edition by Kathleen Ayers Romance eBooks Reviews
I flagged this beforehand, and "purchased" on my Unlimited subscription as soon as it was released. Enjoyed the first book (tres sexy), and this one just as much. I have been a "beta reader" before for another author, but not this time. Totally unsolicited review -- HONEST, cross my heart and all that! I have actually BEEN to Bermuda in the late 80's for an audit job. LOVED the city of Hamilton, by the way... and do enjoy a good Regency read. This was nice and long and meaty. Some sex scenes, so be warned if that's not to your taste. Author should have mentioned Bermudian loquat... just sayin'... Story met my litmus test well edited, not many distracting and cringe-worthy spelling/grammar errors, A bit predictable plot-wise, but all-in-all satisfying. Waiting rather impatiently for the 3rd book, presumably about the Irish Lord. (I am an Alaskan, and if you've ever been fishing up here, an Irish Lord is a REALLY ugly fish. Definite bi-catch. HUGE mouth, not much meat, but I digress). Anyhow, definitely worth your time.

First, I will say that the blurb for Devil of a Duke is a touch misleading. Though it does offer the basic premise of the romance readers should expect, it does nothing to highlight the drama and adventure this book offers. Devil of a Duke is absolutely packed with intrigue, politics and a fair share of fighting. As I don't want to spoil the plot for anyone, I'll leave it at that, but take my word for it - this novel is by no means packed with dances and frilly dresses. In fact, Jem, the female lead prefers wearing breeches and shooting a pistol to gossiping and embroidery. If that doesn't catch your interest in a Regency Romance, I honestly don't know what will.
The love between Jem and Nick is quick to form, something that normally bothers me in a novel but didn't in this particular one. Their short seduction ties in to a larger plot that I found quite enjoyable, and rife with tension and angst. That being said, I did feel as though the romance in Devil of a Duke was a touch lacking following the first book in the series, Wicked's Scandal - Alex and Sutton's chemistry was just so explosive and passionate that I imagine it will be hard to top moving forward. (I can't wait to see Kathleen Ayers try though, she certainly knows how to write men that women fall in love with).
As previously mentioned, there is plenty of action to be found in Devil of a Duke and the pacing is just right. I flew through this book. In fact, I absolutely devoured it. It contains believable and absolutely hateable (not a word, oh well) villains. Ayers not only has a talent for writing leading men, she is fantastic at writing villains for her readers to hate. In both books of the series, the villain's identities surprised me, and I was astounded at the lengths they would take to achieve their deplorable goals.
My Takeaway Alright, alright, I will stop gushing over Kathleen Ayers, undoubtedly one of my new favorite regency romance authors, and simply end my review with this even if you're not particularly a fan of the genre, the Wickeds series is worth giving a shot. I laughed, I cried, I gasped in shock, and I am dying to do it all over again when her next book comes out.
I absolutely love this book as much as I do the first. Nick and Jemma are a definite match. Fellow readers do yourselves a favor and don't miss out on these two books. I could not put them down and wanted to know what was going to happen and then wished the end had not come. I hope that Ms. Ayers will have her next story available VERY soon!
I am enjoyed the intriguing plot. Kept me reading to the end in one seating. This is most definitely a good read.
I read the first book and loved it. Book two did not disappoint. I am looking forward to the next Wicked book.
I love this series! It is so good that I bought it after reading it for free. There are very few books for which I give an excellent review, this is one of them. Ayers is every bit as good as my favorite author Elizabeth Hoyt. I just wish she was as prolific. I can't wait for the next book!
I've been waiting three years for this book to come out and it was worth it! I loved it! It was sweet, sexy and funny and the characters were fantastic. The author is definitely one of my favorites. However, like the first book-I would have liked more of an ending. I expected several more pages and I was surprised it was the end-felt too abrupt. I can't wait for the next book! I hope it's not a long wait )
